BLOG

For nearly 15 years David Biehl has been a DJ and remixer of dance and house music. A student of music from early on, he learned such classical instruments as the viola, saxophone, tuba and piano and ever since, he has flirted with the industry in one form or another.

Originally from rural eastern Pennsylvania, he moved to South Florida to attend the University of Miami. He first got interested in the underground dance music scene in 1993 during the resurgence of the South Beach area. He fell in love with the hypnotic rhythms and Latin sounds that took over and literally provided the soundtrack to the re-building of Miami Beach.

In early 1997, David had the opportunity to move to New York City where his love of the underground dance scene expanded even further. Delving into the wide variety of electronic house sounds, his mixing style went deeper and darker, a style that persists to this day.

In 2003, David moved back to Florida where he now makes Orlando home. He continued honing his DJ craft and his production career slowly started to develop. After years of working with other artists samples, pre-produced loops and vocal tracks, "Transcendence" was born. It’s his first original production and the first of his efforts to be formally released to the public.

From what everybody told us, it was one of the best nights there in ages. The guys stayed out and partied until close at 2am, the back patio was hopping all night, and DJ Cap ‘n Kirk mixed it out on the main dance floor. We had a great turnout from the local bears plus a few who traveled in from other parts of Florida to enjoy the night.

We had a terrific dinner at the Secret Garden Cafe, owned and operated by a couple Jacksonville bears, Mike and Zack. All in all a great weekend and we hope to get back there again sometime next year for another Tidal Wave event.

Even harder to believe is that this is year number three already! We’re holding an official Tidal Wave Kick-Off Party at the 616 Bar in Jacksonville, FL this Saturday. My business and DJ partner DJ Danny G (aka Danny Gallegos) and his partner Brett are coming down from Charlotte and DJ Cap ‘n Kirk (aka Kirk Hartladge) will also be joining the road trip. Kirk will be DJ’ing the main floor of the bar and Danny and I will be DJ’ing and promoting the party on their outside patio. The weather looks like it’s going to be phenomenal so it should be a GREAT weekend!

Port Orleans Riverside is this year’s host hotel for the upcoming Tidal Wave Party during Disney Gay Days in June. It’s a beautiful property and should be a real step-up from last year’s All-Star Resort.

We took a short stroll along the riverside before dinner and I snapped a few pictures, they’re posted below.

Welcome to my new-look webpage. I’ve been busy working on re-vamping this webpage as well as working on new music projects, including some remixes of songs off my first CD and a couple new remixes of some more recognizable songs.

It’s been about six months since the release of my CD Transcendence and, after much debate, I decided to put a full audio version of the CD on the webpage for people to listen to in its entirety. Producing it was a real labor of love and without the promotional capabilities of a major record label, nor the funds to promote it properly myself, I decided to put it here so people can freely listen and, hopefully, enjoy it. Those who have heard it have called it chillout, house music, new age dance music and my favorite thus far, “techno jazz.” I just think that captures the spirit of the music and gives it a unique branding all it’s own.
